Friends at Freeboot Friday

October 28th was the last Freeboot Friday of the ECU football season. Andy and I went, arriving late as usual but in time to hear a bluegrass band who had a female member that could play one mean fiddle! This was the night Andy met Beth, the coworker with whom I am traveling to Charlotte this weekend.

Beth brought her friend Beth (hereafter known as Beth2) along. We met up around 7:30 and spent the final half hour of Freeboot Friday chatting, laughing, and engaging in general frivolity. Beth and Andy hit it off. Over the past three months, Andy has really loosened up. He is quick witted and funny. Of course, no one was more surprised to discover that than I was!

After 20 minutes of meaningless banter, Beth2 spoke up and asked, "So how long have you two been married?" There was a slight pause and a mumbled, "23 years." Beth2's mouth dropped open. Her response was, "Really? You two are so into each other it seems as though you have just met!" After some nervous laughter I replied, "Well, funny you should mention that...."

I have chewed on Beth2's statement for over a week now. Last night after spending the afternoon and early evening with Beth and Janis, my biggest desire was to go to the house, wrap my arms around Andy, and tell him I love him.

I guess I really am "into" him. It is an exhilarating thought, but part of me wonders: How did I get out of being into him in the first place?
